Long Live McQueen (3/16/1969- 2/11/2010)

When I heard the news that Alexander McQueen died, I thought it was a joke. Before I found out at work, I took a bathroom break, looked in the mirror to compose myself. The day had started out nervewracking due to a project that I spent 9 hours working on, to relief, and distress when shit just refused to go right. I was happy again until I was told he died. Shock and a deep feeling of sadness set in. I didn't know the man, but it was one of my hopes and dreams that I would meet him. I've never really had a list of celebrities I wanted to meet, but when it comes to artists and designers, I could name off the ones I wanted to meet in no time. McQueen was really high up on the list. And now he's dead. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

There go my inspirations, one by one. To me, the man is a genius and his ideas will aways influence me. His work is dark, mysterious, ethereal, and enchanting. The man could and did make even misery look beautiful. There are not many people whose work I come back to time and time again, But here was one creative power that really spoke to me. Lives may be lost but memories live. Of all things, I hope he is in a happier place than he was here. Life is not always a walk in the park.

These collections have been the most impactful on me. The themes, the music, the clothes are just...amazing. RIP MR. LEE MCQUEEN.

Weatherman

I don't believe meteorologists anymore. They say the weather is gonna be one way, that we're gonna get 20 inches of snow or a super nice day. Then they let you down. Today was supposed to be nice but it rained like crazy. The wind was so strong that I couldn't cross the street without swaying to the side. I was in the best mood though for some strange reason and I couldn't stop smiling like a cheeseball. Then I kinda danced around in the rain, too. It's a nice change from all the stupid school and life stress though. Almost everything and everyone had been irritating me up til that moment. It's true, music makes everthing better. In this case, rain too.

Pssst...

I have a secret guilty pleasure. Actually, it's not a secret anymore but I actually like watching Jersey Shore. I don't typically watch tv anymore but I'll actually take the time to watch a couple shows online. JS is one. Before I watched it, I was super skeptical and said "this show is going to be crap". Don't get me wrong, it is; it's trashy, tanned, and full of drama...but no doubt, it's entertaining. And hilarious. Anddddd Pauly D is not that bad, minus the hair cut. Anyway, this Michael Cera + Jersey Shore Cast is hilarious. Michael Cera is the best geek ever.

Nagi Noda

It's late at night and I should totally be doing homework but I came across someone pretty fucking awesome while slacking off. Her name is Nagi Noda(died September 2008-booooo) and according to her biography, she was a music video/ tv commercial director, CD jacket designer, multi-disciplinary artist, and recent fashion designer- talk about multitasking! Anyway this woman was and still is amazing but I'll let the pictures and artwork speak for themselves. It's definitely strange but in a really good way. Check out her work at NagiNoda.com

I want all the hair hats:

More of her work...
This is just a sampling of her work; it would take me a week to add all of her artwork, hence the site

Zombie Love

Soooo disappointed right now. See these macabre beauties? I've been looking for them online at a decent(cheap) price. I finally found them at the Iron Fist online shop.I was going to buy them when I got my paycheck but checked the website again later and my size was gone. SHIT! I guess when an opportunity appears, or in my case, zombie heels, you seize them before they're gone. For now, I'll track the website like a hawk in the sky and grab them when they show up again.
Also, I love zombies. But that might be obvious.

Winter, Go Away

Come winter, my fashion sense deteriorates into nothingness. I dress for warmth instead of visual effect. That means whatever sweater I can dig up along with a couple of shirts and a scarf. The solution to not freezing my ass off in crummy Boston weather? A warm but cute coat. And funtional boots. Is it just me or are most winter boots just ugly?

Coat inspiration:

Pictures are from Various sources: Style Bubble, Facehunter, Missoni, Style.com, The Sartorialist, Jak and Jill - if I'm missing anybody, let me know! Keeping track of sources is hard, especially when you have 950+ inspiration pics saved in random order.

LadyGaga x Polaroid

- MINUS
+ PLUS

= EQUALS

Two of my loves, Lady G and Photography, are combining! She's the new face of Polarioid as well as the creative director, soon to participate in creating specialty products. Creative Director,Singer, Dancer-what else will she do? To be honest, if she slaps her face onto a polaroid camera, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Good choice, Polaroid- Now if they could bring back their instant film cameras.
I had one growing up and totally didn't take advantage of it. The film was expensive and I was even more impatient. Now, I wish I would've stocked up so I could embark on camera whore adventures. I mean, there are digital polaroid makers and stuff but it's just not the same. It's like online dating. Same concept but it's NOT the same. Not that I experienced the latter. More info about Lady Gaga's new gig at MSNBC.

Chopped and Screwed

Hair. It really is a complex issue for me. I'm a fan of the obscene and ridiculous but when it comes to hair, I tend to stick with boring and simple. There's nothing wrong with either boring and simple, but they're just that. It's just, I don't know what the hell to do with my hair. The texture is a cross between Cambodian wavy thick hair and Coarse Black hair. Some parts of my head are silky smooth and the other part is afro. Most stylists I go to don't really know how to deal with it.

My dad got me an Instyler for Christmas. I had no idea what it was before my dad gave it to me. Supposedly it can curl, straighten, and do all sorts of tricks. I decided to try this thing out-at 11:00 pm, the night before school. My sister straightened it for me as I sat throught 3 episodes of Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore is addictive garbage, by the way. After she finished, I looked at the ends..ughhhh, so I decided we should cut them off.Snip, Snip, Snip and this is what my hair looked like:

Kinda Horrendous? I agree.

Soooo I ended up at Empire Hair Salon, aka Blaine's Beauty School. This place is hit or miss. I've definitely been caught up in ugly haircuts before0 this is NOT the place to go if you can't take chances. It is cheap, though. Anyway, fast forward to the part where I get my hair Shampooed, conditioned, blowdryed, and straightened. Don't foger the burning too- this woman kept on burning my scalp with the goddamn blowdryer. I didn't know getting your hair done was supposed to hurt!Anyway, the end result was this:

The best part of having my hair like this is being able to wear a hat! With my hair always in a bun, it was hard to wear hats. That, and I thought I had a gigantic head.

Now I have to maintain this by repeating the process every week.Eventually I'm just gonna dye it, cut it close, and grow it all back healthily. The End.

One More

Ok, I keep finding these inspirational messages that I like. I probably don't follow 85% of the advice that I'd like to take. But this one? this is feasible. People really are full of shit. I'm in no way exempt.
I'd like to know who thinks of these messages. Are they philosophers or just graphic design students who have a knack for giving life advice? I think I'm gonna pretend it's divine intervention. It's 2010- By now, even God probably uses a computer.

Amber Rose

I can't say I know much about Amber Rose besides the fact She's Kanye's girlfriend and a model. I've also come to know her as the chick with the blond shaved head. All that is pretty cool in itself though but what I really like is the way these pictures look. Third and fourth are my absolute favorite. Smoke, mirror shots, and all that illusional stuff always gets me.
Shot by Hiltron Bailey.
Styled by the Boyfriend(not mine, hers!).
See the rest at Kanye's Blog.

So,so true...I'm starting to realize that material objects ain't shitttt. I find happiness in genuity. Yet, there's something missing in my life, not yet sure what it is. Does anyone truly live having everything they ever wanted? Without Sacrifice?

Smile,Laugh,Cry,Just don't call it Quits

Probably one of my favorite scenes of the Titanic. Girl meets guy on ship, secret ecapades are made on said ship, External conflict threatens their relationship, their Love survives but the couple doesn't. I LOVED this movie as a child and it was probably my first tearjerker. James Cameron hit it big.

Now he hit it big again with Avatar. I'm totally reiterating what people have been saying about it but it was good. The effects were great, the characters and creatures were awesome. The plot was pretty good although some parts were a tiny bit predictable. Nevertheless, I got teary eyed at the part where all hell broke loose. I couldn't help but be reminded of unfortunate events. American/World Imperialism, anyone? The natives are looked upon as "savages" and humans are trying to force their language/customs on them while stealing away their natural resources. Although the movie would be offensive to indigenous people, I agree with a friend who said the movie or rather, movie director, is trying to convey a message. It's never okay for people to invade and destroy others.

Anyway, like I said, aesthetically it was gorgeous. From a fashion viewpoint, I loved the minimal wardrobe of the natives. There was an obvious tribal influence with that and the language (African,Asian,Native American peoples?) I'm visually inspired now- I want to recreate some of it! I'm also more tempted to sretch my ears now, too. Oh, the influence...

Back to Business

(Starting today, I think I'm gonna do a picture of the day (posting a pic and blabbering on and on about it's significance to my life, how I see the world, why I like/loathe it)

I told myself "Mattaya. This year you are not going to have New Year Resolutions". Why? Because they never come true Time and time again, I vow to lose weight, to help others out more, to finally learn to play my guitar,to draw/paint/photograph, and to stop slacking. Time and time again, I fail. I think it's about time I take a different approach and to actually just do it.

I mean not just saying I'll do it, practicing my vices up until New Year's eve, and then doing it. I mean JUST DO IT. Nike did something right when they coined that slogan.I like it so much I've considered it getting tattooed on me. Yeah, right.Anyway, I'm using this tactic with posting too.I hope to post every other day. Cookies if I actually stick to this plan.

I'm sure no one would mess with me if I had these.Where do you even get spikes that big? Oh yeah, Givenchy.I'm pretty sure I need one- you know, for self defense and all. It can be a scaaary world, after all.

Virgin Blak

Strolling across LB again and found an awesomely dressed guy. No offense, but I think it's easier being a stylish guy than a girl. No need to be all made up- you can basically roll out of bed and go. Or maybe...maybe thats how guys make it look. I don't know but I do know I find myself strolling over to the mens section of many clothing stores- not because I'm looking to score (ha!) but because guys have the best clothes. They get all the clothes with the cool details and designs! I'm a huge fan of military coats with epaulets, zippers everywhere, spike, asymmetry, and just edge in general. The stores I can afford to shop in simply don't provide this in the female section.

Ok, back to the topic...I stumbled across Virgin Blak and all I have to say is YES! If I was a dude, this is exactly how I'd look in terms of personal style.Actually, I'd still wear almost everything on this website as a girl. What's crazy is that I've been designing and planning to make a hooded cowlneck sweatshirt but I wasn't sure if it would work. According to that design, it will very well work. Of course, my fabric is going to be obnoxiously flashy and in silver as opposed to the one below.

The styling is on point and it might just be me but the blonde dude looks a kinda like Johnny Depp to me. I love the accessories, shoes, garments, and overall look. Definitely one of my new fave stores! Go Shop at Virgin Blak here.
