Smile,Laugh,Cry,Just don't call it Quits

Probably one of my favorite scenes of the Titanic. Girl meets guy on ship, secret ecapades are made on said ship, External conflict threatens their relationship, their Love survives but the couple doesn't. I LOVED this movie as a child and it was probably my first tearjerker. James Cameron hit it big.

Now he hit it big again with Avatar. I'm totally reiterating what people have been saying about it but it was good. The effects were great, the characters and creatures were awesome. The plot was pretty good although some parts were a tiny bit predictable. Nevertheless, I got teary eyed at the part where all hell broke loose. I couldn't help but be reminded of unfortunate events. American/World Imperialism, anyone? The natives are looked upon as "savages" and humans are trying to force their language/customs on them while stealing away their natural resources. Although the movie would be offensive to indigenous people, I agree with a friend who said the movie or rather, movie director, is trying to convey a message. It's never okay for people to invade and destroy others.


Anyway,like I said, aesthetically it was gorgeous. From a fashion viewpoint, I loved the minimal wardrobe of the natives.There was an obvious tribal influence with that and the language (African,Asian,Native American peoples?) I'm visually inspired now- I want to recreate some of it! I'm also more tempted to sretch my ears now,too. Oh, the influence...

(Starting today, I think I'm gonna do a picture of the day (posting a pic and blabbering on and on about it's significance to my life,how I see the world,why I like/loathe it)

I told myself "Mattaya. This year you are not going to have New Year Resolutions". Why? Because they never come true Time and time again, I vow to lose weight, to help others out more, to finally learn to play my guitar,to draw/paint/photograph, and to stop slacking. Time and time again, I fail. I think it's about time I take a different approach and to actually just do it.

I mean not just saying I'll do it, practicing my vices up until New Year's eve, and then doing it. I mean JUST DO IT. Nike did something right when they coined that slogan.I like it so much I've considered it getting tattooed on me. Yeah, right.Anyway, I'm using this tactic with posting too.I hope to post every other day. Cookies if I actually stick to this plan.

Just when I thought it couldn't better, I find that they definitely come bigger- and better! It's one part the statue of liberty and another part warrior girl. I'm sure no one would mess with me if I had these.Where do you even get spikes that big? Oh yeah, Givenchy.I'm pretty sure I need one- you know, for self defense and all. It can be a scaaary world,after all.

Strolling across LB again and found an awesomely dressed guy. No offense, but I think it's easier being a stylish guy than a girl. No need to be all made up- you can basically roll out of bed and go. Or maybe...maybe thats how guys make it look. I don't know but I do know I find myself strolling over to the mens section of many clothing stores- not because I'm looking to score (ha!) but because guys have the best clothes. They get all the clothes with the cool details and designs! I'm a huge fan of military coats with epaulets, zippers everywhere,spike, asymmetry, and just edge in general. The stores I can afford to shop in simply don't provide this in the female section.




Ok, back to the topic...I stumbled across Virgin Blak and all I have to say is YES! If I was a dude, this is exactly how I'd look in terms of personal style.Actually, I'd still wear almost everything on this website as a girl. What's crazy is that I've been designing and planning to make a hooded cowlneck sweatshirt but I wasn't sure if it would work. According to that design, it will very well work. Of course, my fabric is going to be obnoxiously flashy and in silver as opposed to the one below.




The styling is on point and it might just be me but the blonde dude looks a kinda like Johnny Depp to me. I love the accessories, shoes, garments, and overall look. Definitely one of my new fave stores! Go Shop at Virgin Blak here.

Stumbled onto lookbook forums. Post on Favorite Fashion photographers appear on my screem. Several people mention their love for tim walker. Proceed to google. Typed in Tim Walker. Fell in love. Ok...how did I not know about this man before?! I guess he does more work for international magazines than American.I've always wondered who shot the whimsical juicy couture ads, full of coloured poodles and vibrant sets. Now I know and I'm so blown away by tim walker. The sets...like I mentioned are beautiful. Which makes him a fantastic interior/set designer + photographer.

It's very rare I find a photographer whose vision I can identify with,one who takes my breath away. The lighting is very natural and sometimes ethereal or even dim. The pictures are pure fantasy. One of my goals as an artist is to be able to keep every aspect of my imagination. I refuse to let reality be the bane of my creativity.

I watched the interview on showstudio and I recall him saying he was scared of photography because of all the technicalities but obviously the man's vision has taken over fear of technicalities. Time to stop fawning but now I have an addition to my list of favorite photographers ever. Love Love Love <3

Last night went and saw Boston Ballet's the Nutcracker. The show was gorgeous and I liked it much more than when I saw it in the 1st grade. When you're in the 1st grade, your mind can't quite comprehend what the hell is going on-at least not me.Fvorite part of the show? Little children in rat+ lamb costumes+ the BEAR! It's not everyday you see a bear doing ballet!And it snowed for the first time yesterday just as we were leaving the nutcracker

I'm not even into the Nike Brand like that (ethical issues, maybe?) but I think these are pretty awesome. They're a sculpture by Artist Gabriel Dishaw. They weigh 15pounds and they're a 9.5 mens...so 11.5 in womens' sizing? I think I'll pass on wearing them but these are flyyyyy. Fly-I don't think I even use that word as part of my daily extended vocab.Anyways...

She said Hi to Forever

The title? A reference to Daul Kim's blog, I Like to Fork Myself. Ever post title starts with "Say hi to...." . The last post said Say Hi to Forever. The last video a beautiful song that sends chills down my spines because it trails her suicide.

I don't really know what to say because I don't know Daul Kim and I can't understand her reasons for suicide but I can understand her pain.And her suicide made me think-
loneliness/depression is an issue that many people live with daily. Why so taboo? Is it because life is supposed to be nothing but flowers and rainbows? Is it because daily we're bombarded with advertisements saying "oh, if you buy this,if you buy that you'll be happy?" The pressure to live to society's standard can be painful. I think people at the top sometimes have it the hardest.
Humanity doesn't appreciate what is here one day until it's gone the next day or until it deteriorates into nothingness.

Her blog attracted me originally because I liked how much she was uncensored. How the words would spill out, sometimes incomplete or incomprehensible to readers. Sometimes her posts were funny,sometimes they were serious. They were definitely relatable. I really appreciate when people don't hold back, when they question the world as it is, and acknowledge that issues that exist. I just wish one of us would have got to her; to tell her that things would eventually be okay. Everyday we ask someone or we get asked " how are you?" Do we really care or do we just ask out of politeness. If only we really listened to the honest answer of this question; there would be less loss.

This video made me tear up but it made me laugh too because I totally get her humor. Like I said, I didn't know her but I wish I did. What is it that makes it possible for us to mourn and care for someone halfway across the world? I don't know but I wish the best for her family and I hope Daul found what she wanted.

So once in a while, Humanity comes across a person so thrilling,so unique that one can't help but watch every move(or outfit change in this case) of that person. Who is this person? Lady Gaga. Everytime her name drops from my mouth I feel like such a teenybopper fangirl! I probably am considering I consume her songs like crack and squeal at the mention of her name. Anyway, Bad Romance came out today and for the most part, it's pure love.
I think the only thing I'm not feeling is Gaga's dancing buttttt whatever, no one's perfect. Actually, I think that's what attracts me to her. She oozes confidence and she does whatever she wants, whenever-it doesn't matter if people don't understand her.She doesn't resort to overt sluttiness for male attention-Don't get me wrong, she's sexual,for sure, but not slutty.Finally,I like her because she's so weird! Feels good to know I'm not the only one. Anyway, I actually made screenshots of some of my favorite parts-( Basically the whole video,oops)

Oldie but goodie.This is Runt,appropriately named because she was the tiniest of the bunch of kittens that we had. We had to give them all away because there were 7 kittens. I already have two cats so anymore would be too much. I swear I'm going to be a cat lady when I grow up.Wait,unless I already am...

Silhouettes. So simple but so sweet. I find that they're one of my favorite things to do especially against beautiful backgrounds. One day as I was riding the bus to school,late(!), I saw the most beautiful sky with skyscrapers in a perfect shadow. I never got it but hopefully I'll see it again. As for these, these are on the esplanade of the Charles River. I almost fell into the river taking these but I'm pleased with how they turned out.
By the way, I'm in a photo slump. I'm not sure what to do; there's no way I want to quit photography but I'm so uninspired at the moment! Hopefully I can get back on track seeing as I want to major in photography/ visual arts for college. I'm just gonna take the camera and shoot and inspiration should follow.
